In March 2005, Edwin Dodson retired as Manager of Glen Moray Distillery. After an eventful career which spanned more than 40 years in whisky, he will be greatly missed by his many friends in the industry and by the staff at his beloved distillery.
His life in whisky began in 1963 with a variety of roles at Parkmore and Convalmore Distilleries before joining Glen Moray as Brewer in 1974. As well as offering management input to Glenmorangie Distillery during 1994 – 1995, Edwin’s considerable experience proved invaluable when, in 1997, Glenmorangie plc purchased Ardbeg Distillery on Islay. He spent an eventful six months on the island, leading the team that restored the distillery to its former glory.
Only the fourth person to manage Glen Moray since it opened its doors in 1897, Ed has worked tirelessly to put the distillery on the map, most recently celebrating the opening of its new visitor centre and its addition to the Malt Whisky Trail.
Over the years he has captivated countless visitors with his unparalleled enthusiasm so to mark his retirement, Ed conducted a special farewell tour for invited friends and guests as well as filing one final cask, which will be left to mature at the distillery for the next ten years.
As one of his last duties, Edwin selected a special Manager's Choice - a very limited edition Glen Moray from 1962. Balancing a range of spices with the flavours of dark chocolate and lemon, this superb whisky has a honey and lemon toddy finish. In recognition of his enormous contribution to Glen Moray and The Glenmorangie Company, Ed was presented with bottle number 1.
Bottles are available from the distillery, or online from the Shop, priced £295 each.
