This single malt was distilled in 1964 and bottled in 1996, aged 31 years. Too good not to share, the remaining 131 bottles have been released from the Glen Moray archives in 2006. The labels have been recreated to be as faithful to the original design as possible, making this beautiful spirit available to enjoy once more.
Bright amber gold.
Rich, sweet and oily at full strength with cake mix notes of dried fruit, tangy orange peel and dates. Warm notes of gingerbread and cinnamon sticks, and honey and lemon hot toddies add spiciness to the fruit. And finally creamy notes emerge as rum and raisin chocolate/ice-cream and fudge.
Water releases a combination of additional fruity aromas with dried apricots, stewed prunes, bananas, redcurrants and lemon oil. The tangy orange found earlier is now evident as Jaffa cakes and pineapple chunks smothered in chocolate sauce are also found. A nutty sweetness emerges as toffee nut brittle and walnut caramels with just a hint of marzipan, before Madeira cake, heather honey and parma violets come to the fore with subtle traces of liquorice underneath.
Smooth, tingly and oily, coating the palate with an initial smokiness before opening out to zesty oranges and honey and lemon hot toddies. A wave of scented parma violets and blackcurrants appear on the sides of the mouth giving a lightly drying ‘powdered’ effect with a dry nuttiness of crushed hazelnuts. Finally a mix of coffee and dates emerge in the middle and back of the palate.
Lightly oily and drying with notes of citrus, dates and violets and a subtle hint of smoke.
